I worked with the ECCJ to proofread and edit their transposition guide for the EU Corporate Sustainability and Due Diligence directive.
The EU’s Corporate Sustainability and Due Diligence Directive came into force in 2024. It requires companies to operate sustainably and responsibly throughout their global value chains. Under its regulations, affected companies must identify and mitigate any negative impacts their activities have on human rights and the environment, both within Europe and internationally.
The team at the ECCJ prepared a transposition document to help EU member states enforce the directive through their national law.
The document had multiple authors from organisations across the coalition, including Friends of the Earth, Oxfam, Anti-Slavery International and the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights.
I was hired to proofread and edit the document to ensure clarity and cohesion throughout.
Over several weeks, I worked through several versions of the document, querying sections for clarity with various authors. As elements were still being changed and added while the team worked to meet a tight deadline, I was flexible in my approach as I worked around edits from different people. I also ensured that the document and version history remained organised, maintaining and offline version of the document which contained only text that had undergone a final edit.
The document was finished to deadline, with a cohesive voice and immaculate spelling and grammar.
Here’s what Marion, Policy Officer at the ECCJ, said about working with me:
“Working with Rachel was a great experience – she’s a great proofreader and copywriter and worked with us on a long-format project with multiple contributors involved. Even with last-minute changes, she was flexible and delivered high-quality work right on time. Her understanding of technical sustainability lingo is also a huge asset. Reliable, professional, and easy to work with – definitely recommend!“
Marion Lupin, Policy Officer at the European Coalition for Corporate Justice
